Our Statement

We are dedicated to bringing the Jewish Russian speaking population into the local Jewish community. Achim is non-profit organization located in Baltimore, Maryland. It helps Jews from former Soviet Union to restore their Jewish heritage and traditions. Kehillas Achim is The Congregation of Russian Jews with Rabbi Paysach Diskind.

Achim is Hebrew for brothers or siblings. We call ourselves Achim because the driving force of Achim is the understanding that all Jews are siblings to each other. Brothers and sisters, all children of the same father have an inherent responsibility to one another.

Chanukah Party; the Lite Party

With Chanukah here and Jewish homes are lighting up the darkness with meaning and joy, we invite you to join us for a lite party of food, fun and meaning.

You are invited

In the cold winter weekends Kehillas Achim creates warm Melave Malka's to which all warm Jews are invited.
Approximately once a month we get together and spend a couple hours enjoying each other's company and at the same time participate in an engaging discussion or lecture.

Our last Melave Malka featured Rabbi Dovid Hochberg LCSW and his presentation was very instructive as well as entertaining.
The title of his presentation was Secrets for Successful Relationships. For a brief synopsis click here.

Mother's Workshop

Mrs. Shoshana Hexter and her family are moving to Cateret, N.J. Although we will miss her friendship and guidance, we are happy for the community in Cateret for their wonderful good fortune.
We too have been blessed with good fortune to have Mrs. Dina Schneider. We will be restarting our Mother's Workshop in the coming weeks.

As in the past please contact Leah Mikeladze for more information. Leah can be reached 410.358.1450

Blog

Achim now has a Blog written by Rabbi Paysach Diskind. To view Click Here. The discussion in the Blog is a reflection of the issues that are discussed at the Tuesday Evening of Learning. At this program we analyze one mitzvah a week. Depending on the given mitzvah we might dedicate two weeks to the same mitzvah. This class is open to every Jew who wishes to become more knowledgable about our legacy, the Torah and her mitzvos.

Parsha

We now have the summary of the weekly Parsha as well as the weekly Haftorah in English and in Russian. Help yourself by clicking on the link Parsha on the left. This summary will be posted sometime late Wednesday to give everybody a chance to prepare for Shabbos in time.

Urgent Matter; Missionaries Targeting our Community

I have encountered several situations where members of our community and their families have been successfully hit by evangalical Christians. Members of these families have either already converted or in the process of converting to Christianity. This is truly an alarming concern that needs to be addressed. I encourage you to become acquainted with Jews for Judaism and learn how they may be helpful. For starters click here
